Voice of the Vet had the honor of meeting with and sitting down with Lt. Vincent Shank, a 102 year old World War 2 Veteran who was a POW for 22 months.
Vincent Shank was a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was a Navigator on a B-17 during WW2. On his 32nd mission, his plane was shot down and he parachuted safely, but was captured by the Nazi’s and held in a few different German Prisoner of War Camps for 22 months.
Lt. Shank’s POW Camp was freed by General George Patton and his Tank Division. At that time the camp had over 100,000 prisoners in it. Lt. Shank had the opportunity to see General Patton and be within 10 feet of him while he delivered a speech to the now freed men.
Prior to the war, Vincent Shank graduated from San Jose State. He was a trumpet player and was in a band that played at the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago. After that he played in the band that played the music for the “Rat Pack” and other famous celebrities.
At 27 years old, Vincent chose to join the Army Air Corp and do his part to help the United States win the war. This is Part 1 of 2 parts. Voice of the Vet is honored to have had the opportunity to sit down with Lt. Shank and listen to the amazing stories from this real life War Hero. Thank you, Lt. Shank, for your bravery and resilience in war and as a POW. Voice of the Vet is Honored to Salute You and we Thank You for Your Service!
The interview was so informative and heart touching that we will have at least 2 parts. Our next taping with Lt. Shank will also be at the ESPORTS Arena in the Luxor Hotel & Casino, where he will play a video game which might even be Call of Duty. Keep an eye out for this special event.

I met and toured with Vince on the Russ Morgan Orchestra in 1978. He is a most remarkable and generous man.
