Setting the Record Straight: The Original Day of Gratitude
The Day of Gratitude held in June 2024 at Allegiant Stadium was the brainchild of Voice of the Veteran, by Chairman Peter Palivos and Founder/CEO Bob Maxwell. This historic event was created for Veterans, All aspects of the Military (Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves), to honor our nation’s heroes and their families who so often go unrecognized.
CityServe was invited to join the effort, and ChurchLV generously rallied over 600 incredible volunteers. While CityServe is a strong faith-based organization, it is not a Veterans organization, and unfortunately, the role of Voice of the Veteran was minimized in many public-facing materials which did not sit well with many Veterans.
Many Veterans and Military families continue to ask: “Why was Voice of the Veteran made to look like an afterthought?” and “Why weren’t the tireless, unpaid efforts of the Veteran-led team properly recognized?”
At Voice of the Veteran we hear you—and we agree. Next time, we promise to ensure no politics, no erasure, and full credit where it’s due especially to the Veteran team that originated the idea and made it all possible. Without Voice of the Veteran at the wheel, the next event will veer off track and become so commercial, full of lip service, and a venue to make select people look like champions. We will fight this to the end and the truth will come out.
We humbly thank you for your support and understanding.
