Why I Believe the Veterans Supercenter Can Change
the Way America Serves Its Heroes

The Mission Is Personal

For most of my life, I have never been particularly interested in standing in front of a camera or having my name be the center of attention.

I have always been much more interested in getting the job done.

But recently, several people whom I respect greatly told me essentially the same thing: if I truly believe in what we are building, then I need to step forward and become more visible. People need to know who is behind the mission, why we are doing it, and what we stand for.

They were right.

So this is the first of what will become a regular message from me.

I am a United States Air Force Veteran. I spent 25 years in law enforcement, which is part of a 45 year career that included other areas of government and public service. I have been involved in publishing, community programs, youth programs, Veteran advocacy, and nonprofit work. Through all of those experiences, I learned something that has stayed with me:

Good intentions are not enough.

Eventually, somebody has to produce results.

That is why the words “Results Don’t Lie” mean so much to me. They are not simply a slogan. They are the standard by which I believe we should judge ourselves.

  • Did we help somebody?
  • Did we solve a problem?
  • Did a Veteran receive the benefits he or she earned?
  • Did a family find the help it needed?
  • Did we leave somebody better off than when they came to us?

Those are the questions that matter.

Voice of the Veteran was created because I believed Veterans deserved an organization willing to do more than talk about helping them. Today, our work has reached tens of thousands of Veterans and family members, and our VA disability claims assistance has helped Veterans secure more than $100 million in lifetime disability compensation, thanks in large part to the leadership, dedication, and hard work of our CEO and VA Accredited Claims Agent, Dan Kamanao

I am proud of those results.

But neither Voice of the Veteran nor I am anywhere near satisfied.

The Next Mission

Today, after three years of planning, vision, and putting together a business plan that will work, much of my attention now, is focused on what I believe can become one of the most important projects we have ever undertaken: the Veterans Supercenter Campus.

The concept is simple.

Instead of making Veterans and their families travel from organization to organization, office to office, and appointment to appointment trying to find help, why can’t we bring as much of that help together as possible?

All under one roof on one campus.  One community.

One place where people know they belong.

The Supercenter is designed to bring together Veteran Services, VA disability Claims assistance, Employment and Workforce Development, Education, Training, Mental-Health resources, Recreation, Wellness, Family Programs, Community Activities, and Much More.

And our mission has grown beyond Veterans alone.

We intend to serve Veterans, Active Duty Military members, National Guard, Reservists, Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, EMTs, Paramedics, other First Responders, and their immediate families.

These are people who have spent their lives serving others.

They deserve somewhere built specifically to serve them.

This Has Never Been About Me.  We have an all-Veteran Executive Management Team and I couldn’t be prouder of them. This is what will make the difference.

You are going to see more of me in the months ahead.

You will see Bob’s Brief. You will hear directly from me about what we’re doing, where we’re succeeding, where we need help, and sometimes where I believe we as a country simply need to do better.

But I want something understood from the beginning.

  • This isn’t about making Bob Maxwell important.
  • The mission is important.
  • The Veterans are important.
  • Their families are important.
  • The men and women still serving are important.
  • Our Police Officers, Firefighters, EMTs, Paramedics, Nurses, First Responders, Support Staff and all of their immediate families are important.

If putting my face and my name out there helps more people understand that mission, opens another door, creates another partnership, brings another donor to the table, or helps one more Veteran, then I am willing to do it.

Because I believe we have an opportunity to build something extraordinary.

Not something extraordinary for me.

Something extraordinary for them.

There will be obstacles. There will be people who tell us something cannot be done. There will be doors that don’t open the first time we knock.

That’s all right.

I’ve been around long enough to know that worthwhile things are rarely easy.

We will keep knocking.

We will keep building.

We will keep producing results.

And when this Veterans Supercenter Campus becomes a reality, I want every Veteran and every family who walks through those doors to know one thing:

This place was built for you.

Thank you for believing in the mission. Thank you for supporting our Veterans. And thank you for coming along with us for what I believe will be an extraordinary journey.

I’m Bob Maxwell.

And as I have said for years:

Results Don’t Lie.
